Great Camping Trip
We had a great camping weekend, great weather, food and fellowship. I would like to thank Doug and Christy Horner for getting all the food and cooking this weekend. We might have all went away gaining 10 pounds each! :) Thanks to Brandon and all the leaders and Den Chiefs for working with the scouts on performing skits and songs. Scouts and parents learned how to tie knots, went on a hike, and enjoyed the beautiful weather and lake water. The Wolf den worked really hard and almost finished 3/4 of an Adventure Loop. Welcome new scouts! Jaquarius Daye, Jeremiah Workman, James Johnson, William Coletrane, Sean Coble & Erik Kaulinis! Remember this week, we will meet at Eli Whitney Community Building on this Tuesday at 7PM. This will be our ice cream social to welcome our new families and popcorn kickoff. We want all families to bring ice cream and drinks to share. If you have not signed up
Remember Webelos II are hosting this event and need to arrive early to setup the room and help in the kitchen along with the end of the evening final clean up. Class A Uniforms are highly encouraged for all scouts who have them, if not please Class B, except for newly signed up scouts. Popcorn sales start this coming weekend and we need lots of help We need all families to help fill several shifts. New scouts, the challenge is on to earn the Bobcat Rank by the end of October. If you do, you earn a chance to win Putt-Putt at Celebration Station for you and a friend. Click here for the rank advancements requirements. (https://gallery.mailchimp.com/594ec439bce1ae391ee48c559/files/BobcatChallenge2015.pdf) Many of our scouting families still need to turn in required forms and paperwork. Aprille Aguilar has all the forms that have been turned in, so please, click here to check your status (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pLTfqpA81APr0etQT33bQHdw7PhNOgl7H7h24SThh_8/edit?usp=sharing) of the completed forms. Cook-O-Ree (family camping event) is closing in. It is highly important for the majority of our scouts to attend this event with regard to their rank badge. Wolf, Bear, and Webelos require camping with the Pack or their Den to be eligible for their rank badge. If they don't camp with us during October 23-25 (depending on Den), they may only have one additional chance in the Spring to make rank advancement, regardless of how many Adventure loops they complete. The 2015 program has camping as an essential part of making the next level of rank for our scouts.
Happy Birthday to Alexander Klischer 9/25 & Ethan Toler 9/25

Heroes Week
This Tuesday we will have a Police Officer and his K-9, a member of the fire department and an ambulance to give talks, should be tons of fun for the Tigers Wolves and Bears! Special thanks to the family members who attended the BALOO training this weekend at Camp Woodfield. This truley helps our pack with succession planning and allowing more opportunities for our pack to camp in case someone has to back out for an emergency. Thank you!!! This weekend we have our Jordan Lake event. We are able to arrive after 4PM on Friday. We are at the Parker's Creek group campsite #256 click here for a map (https://gallery.mailchimp.com/594ec439bce1ae391ee48c559/files/jordan_lake_parkers_creek.pdf) of the location. Remember when we camp, the pack does not provide drinks or special food. You will need to provide drinks for your family along with any special food your family members need or require. We will have coffee and orange juice, but you should come prepared with your own drinks. Also, we do have a hike planned, so you must bring a backpack with the Cub Scout six essentials along with his water bottle. Also there will be time to fish, so plan on bringing a rod and bait to fish for a while. For families who still want to camp but have not signed up for Jordan Lake, we have another great option for camping. Camping at the Elon Football game on Saturday September 19, 2015 at 6PM. Cost is $20 per person which includes the game ticket, camping, dinner, breakfast, and a gift. Or pay just $5 per person to attend the game! This week we will host new parent orientation at 6PM this week for parents to ask questions. We would like to have den leaders there to answer questions, if you can make it. September 22, we will have our Ice Cream Social/Popcorn kickoff! This will be held at the Eli Whitney Community building at 7PM. We need each family to sign up for drinks, ice cream, or toppings! It should be a great fun evening!
We have many popcorn locations booked and we still are working on booking a few more. If you know of a location, we would love to hear from you!
I would like to thank the leaders today that attended the popcorn meeting. We made some great decisions and I hope that we will have a successful popcorn season.
Cook-O-Ree is October 23-25 at Camp Woodfield. This is a huge family event of camping and fun combined with rank advancement. Sign up for the 26th anniversary of this awesome family encampment. Shooting Sports and food will make for a fun weekend for all.
Happy Birthday to Jacob Tharpe 9/15 & William Bivins 9/19

Happy Labor Day Weekend!
Great 1st meeting!
We had a great meeting with most of our scouts in attendance. We added 3 new scouts on Tuesday, Ayden Brown (Wolf), John Gribbin (Bear), and Joshua Hunter (Bear) welcome to Pack 65. We are happy that you have joined us.
On Tuesday night we passed out the new handbook that had forms we need to be turned in. We need the signed consent form for this year, the signed parents handbook, and you need to make sure you have an updated health form. Aprille is collecting all of these forms, if you are unsure about the health form you can check with Aprille. Also we would like the talent form filled out, it helps us to plan meetings to see who might be able to help. Also if you need a Pack t-shirt or hoodie, those forms were also included in the handbook in the back. Our deadline for ordering shirts and hoodies will be September 29. We would like to get the order placed to hopefully have the shirts back by Cub-O-Ree.
We need help with recruitment this week as we have Alexander Wilson at 6:45 on Wednesday September 9th and B Everett Jordan we think same time on Thursday September 10th. Remember if your scout helps at either location, they can earn a rocket that will be launched on October 10th at 3PM at the Alamance Battle Ground, so mark that date. We also encourage our home school families to come out to help at either location. Please sign up so I know who will be attending!  With recruitment, remember this year if your scout gets another scout to join then they can earn the special patch for this year, which I am told has parts that will glow in the dark, plus they get the rocket and earn the recruiter strip, if they have not already earned it.

We have just a few spots left on Friday night and Saturday night for the camping at Jordan Lake on September 18-20. If you want to go please pay Spencer this Tuesday night. Also that same weekend is camping at the Elon Football game on September 19. Cost is $12 for game and camping, we are still waiting for additional details.
Ice Cream Social and popcorn kickoff will be September 22 at the Eli Whitney Community Building at 7PM. We ask that each family signup for drinks, ice cream and toppings. This is a night that we welcome all new families to the pack and we explain the popcorn program.
Remember Webelos II parents, you are helping host this event, we will need your help with setup, kitchen and clean up that night! So please arrive early! While we are still hoping to get more popcorn locations, we do have still a lot of shifts to fill, click here to sign up
***NEW SCOUTS*** This year the Old North State Council has a special offer to the pack and scouts that earn the Bobcat Patch before October 28, 2015. For the scouts that earn this, their name goes into a drawing for a round of putt-putt for them and a friend at Celebration Station. For the pack, if we can get 75% of our new scouts to earn Bobcat rank by October 28 we will earn a special ribbon and we will be entered into a chance to win a Pizza Party and $100 gift card to scout shop. Leadership has discussed this and Mike Solomon will work with new scouts to try to earn this rank.
Courses the council office is offering are BALOO training and Webelos Outdoor Leader Training. BALOO is the basic camping class great for new parents. This is at Camp Woodfield and we are required to have two BALOO certified people on all camping trips. Currently I am aware of 4 parents taking this class and remember the pack will reimburse through scout bucks for the cost of the class. If you are willing to help at Cub-O-Ree (Cook-O-Ree) October 23-25 either running a station or helping at the shooting range, then please let me or Travis know right away.
Lastly, I was able to upload the scouts' pictures to our Scoutbook software, but it will not allow me to upload the parents. I will work on getting your picture to you in the next week for you to add it to your profile. The nice part of the software is it will allow us to take attendance at the meetings and will show us everyone's picture!
Happy Birthday to Ethan Cunningham 9/13
Have a great labor day weekend and we will see you Tuesday!

Meeting this week!
I hope you are all ready to start the new year! We will have our first parents meeting on Tuesday September 1 at 6PM in the church fellowship hall. Please make note that the rules have changed on how we are handling the space of the church. We do not want any scouts inside the church area without an adult. During the meeting, children can play outside, but no where in the church. These rules will be covered at the first meeting at 7PM.
When we meet Tuesday, we need your scout in either Class A or Class B for a picture. Our new software allows a profile picture of each scout which helps with taking attendance. Also leaders can have their picture taken that night for the program. The first meeting is very important as we will cover the changes, explain the forms, please make every effort to be at this meeting. We will start to take orders for pack t-shirts & hooded sweatshirts for this year.
Our Jordan Lake camping trip is coming up soon and we have limited space for camping. We will take the first 35 people that pay and create a wait list after that, if needed. There will be payment slips at the meeting on Tuesday for you to fill out. We are trying to accommodate as many families as possible, so if you can only camp one night, another family may be able to camp the opposite night from you and we could get more people there. Now we hope most will come and stay both nights. We also have another camping option the same weekend as Jordan Lake. Its Elon football vs A&T, game time is at 6:00 PM on Sept 19 Camp out for cub scouts/boy scouts/misc groups Similar to last year... game ticket, food voucher for dinner at game, camp out on field, breakfast in the am for about $12-15 bucks per person. More details to come soon!
This year we will start using Den Chiefs in our program. A Den Chief is a scout from the troop who comes to the pack meetings to help the den leaders from week to week. This topic will be discussed at the parents meeting on Tuesday.
We have two recruitment nights set. AWE will be September 9 and BEJ will be September 10, remember any scout that helps with recruitment will earn a rocket to be launched October 10 at the Alamance Battleground. Also this year they are offering a special patch to any scout that recruits a new scout to join which is pictured here. Any new scout that joins will also get a rocket. We are asking that on the day at your school that we have recruitment, you wear your pack shirt to school that day. Also we ask the pack families helping with recruitment to wear their pack shirt. Home school families we like for you to join us at either of these locations to help so pick a night that works best for your schedule, and bring a friend to join scouting If anyone is good at creating display boards, we really need 2 new boards created for recruitment to show what we do! Let me know if you can do this for the pack!
Birthdays this week Alexander Wiseman 9/1

Huge Thanks to Pack 65 for your work at AWE & BEJ
We had a great turnout this morning at both AWE and BEJ for a school clean- up. Members of the pack worked on spreading lots of mulch, picking up trash and limbs, blowing off sidewalks, and weeding around plants. At AWE scouts helped spread mulch provided by AWE PTO and trimming bushes in the Butterfly garden. We have posted pictures of the event on Facebook and on the Pack website. Teachers have already stated how much better things look at the schools. Also this week, we set up information tables at both BEJ & AWE to get the word out about scouting during the school open houses. I would like to thank the parents who helped staff the tables. We got a couple of interested parents who we hope will come out and join Pack 65 in the near future.
This afternoon we headed to Hillsborough for a hike at Occonnechee State Park. We hiked 2.2 miles, while after the morning clean up we were all a little tired, but our scouts forged ahead and had fun while being out in nature. It is great to watch boys be boys. We have posted pictures of the event on Facebook and the pack website.
Our first meeting back will be September 1. We will have a parent meeting that night starting at 6PM. We will review topics on church space and check list, recruitment nights for schools, our popcorn goal will need to be set, and camping plans for Jordan Lake. We invite all of our parents to come out to this meeting to help us with the essential and critical planning. The Pack meeting will start at 7PM. We are asking that scouts come in either Class A or Class B uniform. We will be taking pictures of each scout and leaders for the new Scoutbook software for the profile information. Also, we will discuss some of the changes this year with den rules and parents are expected to stay and help the leaders when we break out into dens.
We will be collecting money for the Jordan Lake camping. There is a limit to how many families can go on this trip since we only booked 1 campsite. The cost to attend is $12 per person. The limit is 30 and we might can get a few more than that if their is interest but will need to cap it at 40. The first ones to pay for the trip will be given a spot. So, if you want to attend, plan to pay on September 1 to assure your spot.
Remember there is BALOO training being offered on September 12 at Camp Woodfield and also that same day and same location is the Webelos Outdoor Leader Training. If you take the class, the pack will roll the cost of the class into your scout bucks accounts. Click here (http://www.bsaonsc.org/eventregistration.html) for a complete list of training options.

Save the date for Cub-O-Ree! This years theme will be "Cook-O-Ree" on October 23-25 and the effort will be focused on cooking, recipes, good hygiene, safe food handling, and shooting sports. These are directed specifically to rank advancement requirements, if interested in running a station, please contact me or Travis ASAP. $10 per scout plus food cost, adults and siblings are encouraged to attend at the rate of council camping fees per night ($2) and the cost of food per meal at $3 per meal per person.
I hope all of our scouts that are starting school this week will enjoy their first week. Best of luck on your school year! Remember the Cub Scout motto "Do Your Best!"
All parents are encouraged to take the Youth Protection on the myscouting.org website. please take 20 minutes to complete this very important training to see how much we try to protect your kids and our scouts.
Birthdays this week Ian Garris 8/27 & Jarrett Waldron 8/30!
 Yours in Scouting, Lisa
