Happy Holidays!I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday break! Remember this week we have a couple of optional events going on.

First on December 30, 2014, the Roller skating belt loop at Roll-a-bout in Burlington address 605 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 from 1-4PM. The cost is $4.50 for the session and $1.75 for regular skates and $3.75 for inline skating. We invite the whole family to come out and skate. If you have not signed up please do so we can expect you! Below is a list of requirements that they will need to meet.

Belt Loop Complete these three requirements:

Explain ways to protect yourself while roller skating or in-line skating, and the need for proper safety equipment.
Spend at least 30 minutes practicing the skills of roller skating or in-line skating.
Go skating with a family member or den for at least three hours. Chart your time.

Our next event is Hike Bethabara Park address is 2147 Bethabara Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 this is a lot like Old Salem.
Here is a map of the over all park . Here is a link to the trail we will be hiking. We will meet at 2PM at the visitor center to begin the hike. The visitor center will be closed, but we will start from here the hike is just over 2 miles long. If you have not signed up please sign up here. We will work on the Map and Compass & Hiking belt loops and add miles to our trail trekker program. Below is a list of requirements needed for Map and Compass belt loop.

Map & Compass Belt Loop Complete these three requirements:

Show how to orient a map. Find three landmarks on the map
Explain how a compass works.
Draw a map of your neighborhood. Label the streets and plot the route you take to get to a place that you often visit.

God & Me Program is open to Wolves & Bears to take, which will satisfy rank requirement. We will start this program January 13, 2015 at 5:45PM. It will meet January 13, 20, 27 and February 3. The program is free, but there is a special award (not required) that can be purchased for $12, if you want this award you will need to pay for it. Scout Bucks can be used. Click here to sign up.

Remember to collect those cans you have until January 13, 2015 to turn in cans to earn a BSA sleeping bag valued at $50. Our current leaders are Colton Belcher 179, Ryan Davis at 73 and Ethan Toler at 46, keep those cans coming. We are donating them to SAFE which our church sponsors, so all of this stays local.

Our next meeting will be January 6, 2015. That night we will have our Parents meeting starting at 6PM; topics to be discuss are Scout Sunday, Scouting for Food, Blue and Gold, Cub Scout training for the new 2015 program, status for canned food drive and upcoming events.

ENJOY YOUR BREAK AND HAPPY HOLIDAYSThanks to all the families who came out Tuesday night and helped setup, clean up and bring food. Thanks to the leaders for working with our scouts every week to help them grow! I would like to ask if you still have your scouts awards baggies to turn those in at the next meeting so we can recycle them.

If you have not paid or used Scout Bucks for rechartering and you plan to continue with the pack you need to let me know ASAP, we will began the paperwork process and will have to have everything turned in by January 15, 2015. If we have not been contacted by you, we will have to drop your scout. If you need help with the rechartering fee, please let us know, local churches are willing to help for those in need.

We do have extra pinewood derby kits and rain gutter regatta kits available for purchase for $4 each. We can have those at the next meeting. We will run our Pinewood Derby event in March and the Rain Gutter Regatta will be in June.

Thanks to all the families who donated money to help us with our first ever adopt a family program.

This week the leader of collecting cans is Colton Belcher followed by Ryan Davis. Remember the reward for turning in the most cans is a BSA sleeping bag valued at $50.

The cub scout program will change in June of 2015, BSA is going to offer a few webcasts on January 17, 2015. We will send out more information about this in the Winter newsletter that should come out at the first of the year.

Hike Bethabara on January 1, 2015 at 2PM. This historic park slightly north of downtown Winston-Salem has 183 acres of land with over 20 miles of trails that can be hiked. In addition, 126 species of birds also frequent the park. Moravians were the initial settlers of this particular area and they had a grist mill to help provide flour for bread and other foods. A small pond and other amenities are upon the site. Click here to sign up. It is a little over an hour drive and we will provide directions and a meeting place next week.

AWE & BEJ Trash Clean UpThanks to the scouts and families who turned out this weekend to help with our clean up. We spent an hour getting up trash and limbs!

The Webelos scouts had fun this weekend working with the Boy Scout troop. The Webelos II scouts where invited to spend the night at the scout cabin and participate in the learning process for the First Aid Merit badge. On Saturday, the Webelos I joined the Webelos II and their leaders for more learning on flag etiquette, knots and cooking. Thanks to the troop scouts and den leaders for making this weekend happen.

Rechartering Dues deadline is this Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Remember you can use your scout bucks to pay for this, just let Spencer or Lisa C know at the pack meeting. We will have a table setup to collect money.

The scout who turned in the most canned food this week is Ryan Davis, followed by Alexander Kilscher, then Wyatt Ehinger. Keep bringing the cans each week!

Pack Awards are December 16, 2014 at 6:30 at the Eli Whitney Community Building. We will need help setting up tables/chairs and I need help in the kitchen serving food and drinks. Also we will need help cleaning up after the event.

Uniform inspections will be done at this Pack Meeting, have your scout check in with a judge, we will have winners for each den!

Also scouts who are working on the Heritage belt loop need to bring their items Tuesday night to display in a side room. A presentation by the scout is required to complete the belt loop.

We have had a couple of scout families come to us with needs. We will take a donation on Tuesday night and then a representative from the pack will go shop for the items needed. Money Donations can be turned into Spencer and Lisa at their table.

Blue and Gold planning has started. We are getting prices on location and available dates, I will keep you posted as we move forward.

Save the Date, BALOO training will be April 18, 2015. We need two trained adults at each camping event we go on. This is a great basic camping class where you cook lunch. I would suggest any parent go and take this class, it will help you in camping from here on out in your scouts camping experience.

Scout that collects the most canned goods wins a BSA sleeping bag.Each week at each of our events we will be collecting canned food items for SAFE which is the food pantry for the Saxapahaw community. The church that we meet at is our chartered organization and the main sponsor of this food pantry and we would like to support the church in their efforts.

Parade!

Thanks to all the scouts and families who came out on Saturday to enjoy the parade. We had 19 scouts participate. We sang songs and wished everyone a Merry Christmas, thanks to all the families who helped make this event happen. I hope all enjoyed the parade! Christmas Ornaments

Thanks to Cindy Biles for providing us some wonderful Christmas Ornaments to paint on Friday night. We had 14 families attend and painted over 60 ornaments. We should have these ornaments at our Pack awards night to hand back to the families! I forgot to take pictures at this event except one, so if you took pictures please share them at Cub Scout Pack65 Facebook page.

Rechartering
It is that time of year when you have to decide if you want to stay with scouts for 2015. If you are happy with the program, then we need you to go ahead and pay the dues by December 16, 2014. You can use Scout Bucks to cover the cost of the dues, but you have to let us know that is your plan, otherwise you can write a check or pay in cash. The cost of membership is $25 then if you want the Boy's Life magazine the cost is $12 for a total of $37. We will collect money at the next den meetings. If you do not pay by the deadline we will be forced to drop you from our roster, which means your scout will no longer be tracked for advancement and you will be removed from emails. Also, you will need to fill out another application to rejoin if you do not meet the deadline.

Pack awards
Our next pack awards night is December 16, 2014 at Eli Whitney Community Building at 6:30PM. We will have a pot luck dinner and hand out the awards and Christmas Ornaments. Also we have asked for scouts to work on the Heritage Belt loop & pin requirements and will cover a few that night.

Heritages Belt Loop and pin – complete all (bring to pack meeting)

Talk with members of your family about your family heritage: its history, traditions, and culture.
Make a poster that shows the origins of your ancestors. Share it with your den or other group.
Draw a family tree showing members of your family for three generations.
Help your parent or adult partner prepare one of your family's traditional food dishes. (This is the item that will be brought to the pack meeting in December, see sign up sheet). This can also be a dish that is native to the scouts cultural heritage. Eg, many of my ancestors are german, so I will bring a german dish.

And complete 2 of the following (bring to pack meeting)

Interview a grandparent or other family elder about what it was like when he or she was growing up.
Work with a parent or adult partner to organize family photographs in a photo album.
Make an article of clothing, a toy, or a tool that your ancestors used. Show it to your den.
Learn about the origin of your first, middle, or last name. Tell your den or an adult family member

Note - Loops and Pins for heritage will not be handed out at the December meeting.

Extra Popcorn

We still have 3 bags of white chocolate pretzels, 8 bags of the chocolate drizzle popcorn, and 2 bags of the buffalo popcorn, if you are interested in any of the extra popcorn let me know.

Blue and Gold Planning meeting Tuesday, December 9 at 6:30 at the church. We will decide on the date and start discussing locations, budget options and entertainment. The Blue and Gold Banquet is the annual time when we come together to honor the scouts who have made rank and promote Scouting's Birthday in the USA. We invite any parents who want to help us plan this big event to attend the meeting on Tuesday night.

Parents/Leaders MeetingPlease join us this Tuesday night at 6pm for the next parents/leaders meeting. We have a few items on the agenda like the rank advancement of our scouts, rechartering and fees, along with parade and hiking plans just to name a few. This is your time to voice your needs and desires for the direction of the Pack.

Graham Parade is this Saturday we have secured a truck and trailer for Saturday. The trailer will be smaller so some of the older scouts may need to walk, we will have to see that morning. The truck and trailer will need to arrive by 8:45AM and people helping decorate the trailer should arrive by 9AM all other scouts should be at the trailer by 9:30. I am still waiting to get the line up number and I will provide that to you when I have it.

Christmas ornament painting will be Friday night starting at 7PM. The cost of each ornament is $5 and scout bucks can be used. She will have a few extra for family members who wish to purchase a few more the night of the event. We will have these back in time for this Christmas, come out and make a new family tradition by painting ornaments with your scout family!

Rechartering is the time of the year when you need to decide if you want to continue with the pack. If you do, the cost to renew for the whole year of 2015 is $25, plus $12 if you want the Boys Life Magazine for a total cost of $37, please remember you can use Scout Bucks to pay to continue with scouting.

Finally, White Cheddar arrived yesterday and will be at the Pack meeting Tuesday night for you to pick up. We still have extra like; caramel with nuts, chocolate drizzle, buffalo cheddar, and white chocolate pretzels as an example. Thanks again for your hard work on selling popcorn this year!
