Tuesday our scouts went to Triangle Sportsplex for Ice Skating. For most of our scouts it was the first time on the ice. While they all faced a learning curve they all stuck to the cub scout motto "Do Your Best" and they were all skating by the end of the night. While no belt loops were involved, it was still a great experience that all the scouts enjoyed and it felt good inside. We posted pictures on Facebook and will soon add them to the Website.
We followed that adventure with hiking at Cedarock Park Saturday morning. Our scouts hiked two miles and worked on the importance of the Cub Scout six essentials, what to do if they got lost, and the buddy system. We need your help. We are evaluating our communication of information. Please take time to complete the following survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/D757PWW) to help us be more effective in how we get information to our scouting parents. Our next pack event will be August 4 at Putt-Putt in Burlington at 6pm. The cost is $9 per golfing participant which includes one round of putt-putt, 20 tokens, 2 slices of pizza and a drink. Should be tons of fun, DEADLINE TO SIGN UP  is July 30th, so we can get a headcount to Putt-Putt.
The Alamance District has teamed up with the Burlington Royals on August 8 for a scout Night. The cost is $10 per person, which includes the baseball game, camping, dinner, and a light breakfast. To sign up for this event, call the Burlington Royals office. Mike Solomon will be attending this event, so if you have questions talk to Mike.
We have one more event planned for the summer. It is a hike at Occonneechee State Park in Hillsborough at 2PM on August 22. This is a great hike for scouts learning about Geology and seeing fools gold. Matt Dodson will be leading this event, so please sign up ! Always bring your Cub Scout six essentials on these outings because your den leaders can provide credit towards your rank advancement in the new 2015 program.
BEJ parents, we have secured an information table for Open House on August 20 from 4-6PM. If we could get parents to sign up for shifts so that all families have time to meet with teachers, but also share the scout program to any new parents interested. Let me know ASAP what time slot you wish to secure in manning the table.
AWE families we are still working on securing this night but hopefully will have that information this week.
We encourage all parents to go to the myscouting.org website and create a free account to take the on-line training courses available. The first class you should take is the Youth Protection course. It lasts for about 20 minutes.
 Yours in Scouting, Lisa

Thanks to all the families who came over this past Friday to the Crabtree's for Pot Luck. The scouts had tons of fun and the parents enjoyed the fellowship. We had great food and it was not too hot!
This week is a busy week of cub scouting events. First on Tuesday night we have Ice Skating at the Triangle Sportsplex in Hillsborough at 5:45-7:15 for $5 per person. This includes the skate rental and it is a great thing to do on a HOT summer night! When you arrive you will pay at the front desk, tell them you are here with Pack 65 for the public skate. We invite all family members to come out and skate.
Then on Saturday at 9AM we have hike at Cedarock park. We will work on the Trail Trekker program and the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award and we would like to ask the den leaders to get with any parents about working on an Adventure Loop. Right now, the Wolf Den is going to work on "Paws on the Path", the Bear group has the option of working on "Fur, Feathers, and Ferns", if we have a parent to lead them and the Webelos can work on "Webelos Walkabout" Adventure Loop. Also at Cedarock Park they have Photo scavenger hunt going on right now and goes through July 26. They have points for items you find in the park and take a picture and post it online. I have posted the rules and items on our website (http://www.pack65nc.com/documents.html) . Any scout on our hike is welcome to take along the list and take pictures as we hike.
We also have Putt-Putt on August 4 for $9.
This year we are going to assign dens to setting up the tables and taking them down each month. Also during that month that den will be in charge of the flag ceremony, so they will need to arrive about 6:30pm. We also would like the parents of that den to help with the pack meetings and if a special event falls in that month to help with that event(s). Here is the schedule for the Dens: September Webelos II October Webelos I November Bears December Wolves January Tigers February Webelos II March Webelos I April Bears May Wolves June Tigers
Also as a reminder if you have yet to get your new scout handbook for the new scouting year, these can be purchased at Graham Sporting Goods in Burlington near Lowe's Home Improvement, so you do not have to go all the way to Greensboro for these items.
Thanks to the parents who are already working on securing several popcorn locations. If you have any suggestions for new locations for us to set up popcorn show & sale spots, please send those to me soon.
 Yours in Scouting,
 Lisa

Enjoy Summer!
This coming Friday is Pot Luck at the Crabtree’s at 6PM. Our address is 1700 Old Carriage Court, Haw River, NC 27258. If you plan to attend please let me know, it should be a nice family fun night. We will have dinner and have some games for the kids. Remember to bring dishes, desserts, drinks, and chairs to sit in.
We have been in discussions with the church on space issues for the 2015-2016 Cub Scouting year. After letting the church know we will be placing den rules and checklist for the rooms, the church is willing to continue to share space with us. This year on the first couple of nights of scouts, each family will be provided the new Pack Handbook that will include all of the new changes. Families will be required to turn in a signed form stating they understand the new rules. Our goal is to make the Cub Scouting program fun for all scouts while respecting each other and our space.

I hope you have all gotten an invitation from ScoutBook software for setting up your account. All parents should have access to view your scout’s advancement. We are hoping this will help keep us all on track on for each scout’s advancement. Some information is still being entered, so be patient. With using the new software, it will allow us to send invitations with this feature. I will stop sending the punchbowl invitations I have used in the past.
Remember, we still have events going on all summer and we hope all families will come out and join us.

Happy Summer
We hope all of the scouts who attended Webelos camp had a great time and were able to stay cool this past week! Remember tomorrow we will host our once a year cub scout planning meeting. We encourage a family member for each scout to attend as we make important decisions for the upcoming scouting year. We will meet from 2-6 PM at the Boy Scout Hut and dinner is being provided by the Black's and Crabtree's. Our next Summertime Pack event will be a Pot Luck picnic at the Crabtree's on July 17, 2015 starting at 6 PM. We will have dinner and play a few games in the back yard working on the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity patch. Right now we only have 2 families signed up to attend, we need at least 6-8 to make it work for the night, so please sign up if you plan to attend.  To earn the Outdoor Activity Patch here is what a Scout must do: either have attended Twilight camp this summer or Cub-0-Ree in the fall. Then there is a requirement that is based on rank that we encourage all of our dens to work on this summer. After that you have 14 options to choose from; at the Wolf level you have to do 5 and Bears must do 6, and at the Webelos you must do 7 to earn the patch. For our pack, we have some activities setup already, first is participating in a hike with our hiking program, this should not be a problem. We will offer at least two hikes this summer. While on the hike, we will discuss the buddy system, something we do before each hike. Our 3 options as a pack are participate in a picnic or a fun day. We will have set up a pot luck at the Crabtree’s for this option. Along with that it states to participate in an Outdoor sporting event. We will have kickball, cornhole setup for kids to play and hopefully some other things that evening. Earn the Summer Pack Award is an option, that would be 5 that could all be done this summer without too much trouble. We could finish it off at the Lake Jordan camping event with the older scouts doing a campfire program by doing those last two items will get the Bears and Webelos at what they need to finish earning this patch. There are other options that if your den wants to choose to work on they certainly can with some planning. Please make sure Travis knows in advance about any additional activities and attendance afterwards, so all get credit where credit is due. Yours in Scouting, Lisa

Happy Father's Day
Twilight camp was held this past week and seven scouts from Pack 65 attended this event. Lots of fun with BB and archery each night, the younger scouts spent craft time building space derby rockets to go with the "Flight" theme. We had one night for fishing and on Friday night CiCi's provided dinner. Thanks to the parents of Pack 65 who helped Travis with this important District event. If you are interested in helping at the Cub-O-Ree in October, let Travis know. This should be the last time he serves as the Camp Director. Our Webelos are at Webelos camp this week. We hope that all the scouts and parents will find ways to stay cool. Have a great safe week!. Next weekend we will host our first ever Cub Scout Yearly Planning meeting and we have lots of topics to discuss for the upcoming year. We would like to have at least one parent from each family attend this very important meeting. We will provide a dinner and this event will happen at the Boy Scout Hut from 2-6PM on Sunday. If you plan toattend please sign up so we can gather items for dinner. Deadline is June 25th. Come with ideas and thoughts on how we can build Pack 65. Please check out the website for all the events we have planned this summer, some events may be cancelled if we do not get enough people to sign up for them, so it is very important to sign up early and commit to being present or you can call us if that makes it easier. In our newsletter we talked about important items a scout could earn> I just wanted to take time to remind parents of the first one. The Summertime Pack Award has 3 parts to it. First, is for the pack to plan 3 events for the summer that take place during the months that the kids are not in school. Second, is the den participation which means that each den can earn a special ribbon if each den plans an event and they get at least 50% participation. Lastly, is the scout Summertime Pack Award, which means that the scout must attend one event per month during the summer to earn this pin. For the scout there are more options to earn this, it can be attending Twilight or Webelos Camp, or the Burlington Royals baseball games, both items that are being put on by the District. The scout can also earn it by taking the NOVA classes Brandon will offer or one of our hiking events. Also, you could've started earning it by attending the End of the Year Party which was the Pack’s first event, you also have the Triangle Sportplex for Ice Skating, Crabtree’s house for pot-luck picnic, or Putt-Putt. As you can see we've tried to offer many opportunities this summer to keep our scouts involved.
Hope you are having a great start to the summer.
Lisa
