Popcorn

Due to a production issue, the White Cheddar Popcorn was not delivered with the rest of the popcorn on Friday. We have been told it will be shipped and we should have it for this weeks Tuesday night meeting. If you did not come to the pickup on Friday night, we will have it there on Tuesday night for you to pack up. Please check your forms and make sure you got what you needed and if you have anything missing let me know. We know we had a couple of families who did not get what they needed, so we are in the process of getting the orders corrected. Also we still have extra popcorn that can be purchased. 3 bags of white choc pretzels, 2 bags of Buffalo, 1 bag of kettle corn, 3 bags of caramel w/nuts, and 11 bags of the choc drizzle.

Service Project

It is the time of year when we gather with friends and family to share family traditions and give thanks to all that we have. I know that I am very thankful to all of our scouts and their families. I have always said when you join pack 65 it is like joining a bigger family, it makes me so proud to say I am from Pack 65 and I hope that you feel the same way. With that said it was discussed at the parent/leaders meeting for us to do adopt a family.  I am working with Christmas Cheer on getting a list of needs for one family which will be posted soon. If your family can help, please sign up for what you can purchase. If you don't want to do the shopping, then feel free to donate money at the next meeting and we will shop for the items.

We are working to schedule a campus clean up for both AWE & BEJ for December 13, it should only take a hour at each school to walk the school grounds picking up trash.

Please keep Ryan Davis and Brenda in your thoughts and prayers, Ryan's dad passed away unexpected this week.

Social Media

Jennifer Freeland has accepted the role of social media for the pack. She is now adding events to the pack Facebook page. We ask that you friend Cub Scout Pack 65. We ask that you share pictures of events for all the members to enjoy!

Also, I am working on keeping the website updated with current events. Check out the media section where I have added pictures and under news I have added some of our weekly emails. It should have the latest documents and sign-up sheets. Our pack web address is www.pack65nc.com

Recruitment

It is a proven fact that boys who have friends that join the Cub Scouts with them are twice as likely to stick with the program. Of course you have seen over the past few weeks the boys will make new friends when given the opportunity. Still I wanted to remind everyone that right now the council is encouraging scouts to recruit a friend to join scouting with them. If your scouts gets another scout to join our pack by December 12, 2014, their name will go into a drawing for a $500 gift card.

Planning Meetings We will have a planning meeting Tuesday November 26 at 6:30 at the church to discuss decorations for the trailer for the Graham Parade December 6, we already have 23 scouts signed up, so let's make it special for them!

The next parents/leaders meeting will be held December 2 at the church at 6PM. we'll discuss upcoming events, service projects, budget, & rechartering.

Lastly, we will hold a Blue and Gold planning meeting at 6:30 on Tuesday, December 9 to set the date and discuss locations for this event. We would like to invite any parent to attend that is interested in helping plan this special event.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy time with family and friends!

Thanks to all of our families and scouts who came out to our PIZZA PARTY! I would like to thank all of you who helped sell popcorn this year. Our pack sold over $19,000 in popcorn which top all packs and troops in the District! WAY TO GO PACK 65. Congrats to all the scouts and their families for all your hard work. Special congrats to Ryan Ehinger who sold over $2500 worth of popcorn, this is the highest ever in our pack! Ryan spent a lot of weekends working at the show & sell locations and you can see it made a big difference. Thanks to leaders who took a pie in the face, the boys really enjoy this reward I think the most!

Thanks to all our scouts who participated in the Veteran's day parade! We had 12 cub scouts and 16 Boy Scouts participate. This was the first time Alamance County offered a Veteran's parade and they plan to continue. Meeting the Veterans and seeing how much they appreciated this made a lasting impression. Remember to take time to honor those who have given so much for us to have our freedom.

FRIDAY NIGHT IS POPCORN PICKUP AT 5:30 AT THE CHURCH PARKING LOT!

God & Family program is for Webelos only. This is a 7 week program that will be held on Thursday nights starting November 20, 2014. It will start at 6:30 and run to 8PM each Thursday night at Chatham Meeting Friends. The cost of the program is free, to cover the cost of the award that can be worn all year on the uniform the cost will be between $12-$15. Pastor Wayne Lamb will lead this program. Please sign your scout up if you plan for them to participate. Our Space Derby was a great success, thanks to all the scouts and families for working hard on their space rockets! Our overall winner was William Bevins, 2nd place Jacob Eubanks and 3rd place Wyatt Ehinger. Thanks to the many dads who helped put this event on, it takes a lot of manpower to pull off this event. Also thanks to all the other parents who helped with setup, clean up, kitchen, games and all the other things that everyone does to make a event successful! Our pack has gotten really big, but still we all come together and work as a team!

At our December pack meeting we hope to have the rest of our scouts that still need their Bobcat rank complete. Also the plan is to have the scouts work on the Heritage belt loop and pin at home, since we are getting to that time of year where we celebrate family traditions.

Heritages Belt Loop and pin – complete all (bring to pack meeting)  1. Talk with members of your family about your family heritage: its history, traditions, and culture.

2. Make a poster that shows the origins of your ancestors. Share it with your den or other group.

3. Draw a family tree showing members of your family for three generations.

4. Help your parent or adult partner prepare one of your family's traditional food dishes. (This is the item that will be brought to the pack meeting in December, see sign up sheet). This can also be a dish that is native to the scouts cultural heritage.  Eg, many of my ancestors are german, so I will bring a german dish.

And complete 2 of the following (bring to pack meeting)

1. Interview a grandparent or other family elder about what it was like when he or she was growing up.

2. Work with a parent or adult partner to organize family photographs in a photo album.

3. Make an article of clothing, a toy, or a tool that your ancestors used. Show it to your den.

4. Learn about the origin of your first, middle, or last name. Tell your den or an adult family member

Note - Loops and Pins for heritage will not be handed out at the December meeting. Also if you would like to help plan and decorate our entry for the Graham Parade please let me know. We are hoping to have a tree that will be decorated with the pack colors. The Graham parade is December 5 starting at 10AM. The people who will decorate will need to arrive by 9AM which is when we have to be in our place in the parade line.

Blue and Gold is our annual banquet on the birthday of Scouting in the USA when most scouts reach rank level. This is a very special night, we typically have this catered for the meal and then we have a scout cake bake contest that we then eat for dessert. We would really like to have a planning committee for this event to help pick the location, food and decorations. If you are interested in being part of the committee let me know.

Week 11/9/2014

11/9/2014

Remember this week we will not have a meeting on Tuesday since the kids are not in school. We hope that you will come out to the Graham Veteran's Parade at 12:30PM on November 11, 2014. If you are planning to attend please sign up.

IF you have not gotten in touch with Spencer on what prize you want for your scout do so today before 6PM. We still have extra popcorn that we need to sell, if you want to help your child reach their next popcorn level you can still purchase some, since it will come right at Thanksgiving this would make a nice Christmas gift!

If you have not signed up for the Pizza Party you will need to do so by November 11, 2014 so we can place the order for the pizza. Also we need to plan on how many scouts will be running the space derby.  During our pizza party we will hand out pack awards and do the pie in the face of den leaders and cubmaster, we will also announce the amount of popcorn sold.

We are in the process of setting up a few service projects with the school and also canned food drive for the church. We will let you know when we have more details.

Our next Pack awards night will be December 16 at the Eli Whitney Community Building. We hope the rest of our new scouts will reach Bobcat by this time. Leaders deadline for getting awards enter will be December 10, 2014. We would like have this event as pot luck where all families bring a food item and drinks.

If any of you need pack numbers or other patches needed for the class A uniform let me know, Travis will be going on Thursday to pick up the kits for pizza party and we are willing to pick up items and you can pay for them on Tuesday night.

Yours in Scouting,
Lisa

Veteran's Day Parade

11/6/2014

Good Morning,The city of Graham is hosting a Veteran's Day parade this year. This is the first time the town has done a parade for the veteran's and Troop 65 plans to participate and has invited the pack to join them. I know this is late notice, but I want to give everyone the opportunity to honor our Veterans. We are not sure if we will have a trailer for the scouts to ride on, if we walk it is under a mile so all of our scouts should be able to handle it. If you have class A uniform please plan to wear it, otherwise wear your Pack 65 shirt.
The parade will start at 1PM at the Graham Rec Center; we will need to gather at 12:30PM to get in line, the route will be the same route that the Christmas Parade takes. If you want your scout to participate a adult will need to stay with the scout during the parade. The Crabtree's are planning on attending, please sign up and provide a number that you can be reached at that day.
Let's show the Veterans what they mean to our pack!
Yours in Scouting,Lisa

Cub Scouts 11/3/2014

11/3/2014

Remember tomorrow night we will have our parents/leaders meeting starting at 6PM at the church. This is open to all parents to attend, the scouts will work on the STEM program during this time.
Congrats to Ryan Ehinger for being last week top seller in popcorn.
We will host our Pizza Party with the Space Derby on November 14 to celebrate all the hard work of our scouts and parents. If you have yet to sign up, please do so and include your count of people attending and if your scout will race in the Space Derby. If your scout did not sell $100 in popcorn and wants to race, we will have kits available on Tuesday night for $4. Click here to sign up.
I would like to say thank you to all who helped this past Tuesday at our pack awards, it takes a lot of effort to pull these off and we are still adjusting to the size of our group.
Congratulations to all of our new Bobcats we had 19 new scouts earn this award. We have several more who are very close and should have this by our next awards night on December 16.
Recruitment is still going on, if you know a boy who is interested in scouting have him come to a meeting, if he joins you earn the recruitment stripe and if they join before December 12 your scouts' name will be entered into a drawing for a Xbox-1 or PS-4 or $500 gift card!
If you got awards last week for your scout and kept the zip lock bag please return them so we can recycle them for the next meeting.  Give them to Travis
Also I have attached the uniform placement guide, some parents had questions after the meeting last week.
Brandon is working on the final agenda, but here is a list of a few topics to be covered. Parades do we want to participate? God & Me, God & Family dates, Mad Platter night, Hike Eno signup, Service projects for schools, Bobcat deadline for December 16, Next awards December 16, start planning committee for Blue & Gold.
Lastly, I have added some pictures to our website www.pack65nc.com from Cub-O-Ree. If you have pictures from this event, or Hanging Rock, or our awards, or popcorn please send those to me so we can add them.
Yours in Scouting,Lisa
