Cub Scouts 3/14/2015

3/14/2015

Thanks to all parents and leaders that attended this week's meeting.  We made lots of plans for the upcoming months.

We will have a service project at AWE on Sunday March 15, 2015 at 2PM. All are welcome to come and help, it should only take an hour. You will want gloves and probably old shoes.

We have tons of events planned! Remember all events are optional participate in what works for your family.

Hiking at Eno State Park at the Cole Mill Trail at 1:30 on March 21, 2015. We will be working on our Trail Trekker miles.

Shooting Sports weekend at Camp Woodfield, April 17-19, 2015. Scouts will get to shoot BB guns, archery, hiking and fishing. The cost is $30 per person to camp for two nights, which covers meals, programming & camping costs. If you stay just Saturday night the cost is $25, this is a great first time camping location. We encourage all family members to attend, adults and siblings are welcome to shoot, you just have to sign up . Deadline is March 31, we have to turn in the from by April 1 to get signed up. If you opt to fish, the pack has a few rod & reels that the boys can share. That same weekend, the council is also offering BALOO training, which is a camping class which is great for anyone to take.

Pinewood Derby event is Saturday April 25 from 9:30am-1PM. We will start checking cars in at 9:45 and hope to have the race started by 10AM. We will run our scouts first and then the Outlaw division, where parents and siblings can compete for fun. Our Pinewood Derby practice will be Friday night at 7-8PM,  ONLY scouts who participated in the Scouting for Food effort in February can attend and practice. Both of these events will be held at the Eli Whitney Recreation center, which is across from the baseball fields. We need everyone who will be racing to signup  . We also ask each family to bring a snack item and drinks.

Mom & Me is May 2-3, you have to signup and pay with the council to attend this event. Right now they are offering an early bird special for $40 for mom and scout but the deadline is April 1, 2015 to get that price, after that it goes up to $50. We are also having a signup sheet, just so we know which moms are planning to attend. So far we have four mom's and their scouts signed up from Pack 65, so don't forget to wear your orange Pack 65 shirts. They will have BB & Archery going on this weekend, plus they have people to help with tent setup.

BEJ is having their service project May 16 at 9AM at the school to help build a butterfly garden,if you wish to help

We have scheduled our End of the Year party for June 13, 2015 from 2-6PM at Lake Michael in Mebane. We will host our Rain Gutter Regatta and give out our last awards for this cub scouting year. This event will also count as the first event towards earning the Summertime Pack Award. To earn this award a scout must attend one scouting event each month across the summer. We will have a cookout dinner.  The pack will supply the meat and scout families will be asked to bring sides, desserts, and drinks.

Webelos camp is a week long event for current Webelos I and Bears. This will jump start scouts on earning awards for rank. It also introduces the boys into camping, longer that just a night or two. It is held at Camp Woodfield and is tons of fun with full days of programming and the staff provide the food, so no cooking. To be included in this year's event, you will need to pay your deposit of $90 by the March 24th meeting to be signed up. The boys will be camping June 16-19, 2015.

Lastly, mark your calendars. We have booked a camping trip for September 18-20 at Jordan Lake.  The Parker's Creek group camping site. We thought this would be a great way to get the familes ready for Camp Woodfield in October for Cub-O-Ree. I have a sign up sheet started  if you are planning on going!

I know we have a lot of things planned, just remember you need to sign up for what you want to attend!

Yours in Scouting,

Lisa

We should meet this Tuesday. I know that it has been a while since we have had a regular den meeting and all signs are looking good for us to meet this week. We are also hosting our parents meeting this week and we will be making many plans for the upcoming months for important events, so if you can attend plan to meet at the church at 6PM. We will be discussing our Pinewood Derby event and camping options!

Remember Monday night will be the bridging ceremony for the Webelos II's into the Boy Scout Troop. This will be done at the Boy Scout Hut at 7PM. All pack parents and scouts are invited to attend this special event. Webelos I families are encourage to attend to start building that bond to the troop. Remember parking is limited so carpooling is encouraged. You can park at the church and ride with another family since it is just a 3/4 mile away.

3/1/2015 Blue and Gold

3/1/2015

Last night we hosted our annual Blue and Gold Banquet event, which is a time when we recognize scouts that have earned their ranks and other achievements. Blue and Gold is held in February, which is the anniversary month of when Boy Scouts was founded in the United States. Last night we honored our scouts and leaders during this event for all the hard work they have put in to this scouting year. Scouts have until June 1 to earn their rank badges, so no worries if your scout did not get rank last night, they have a couple of more months to finish any lingering requirements!

We had several special guests last night. We had leaders from Troop 65 in attendance to speak on the troop program. We also had members of the Order of the Arrow (OA) program in attendance to help with the Arrow of Light Presentation. The Order of the Arrow group is the Honor society of the Boy Scout program. Scouts are voted into this group by their peers after they have completed so many steps as a Boy Scout. Once they are nominated, they then have to preform an "Ordeal" in order to be accepted into the group. So last night was a huge honor to have a few members of this group present at our event. Order of the Arrow is one of the only organizations where voters who are not in the organization actually vote future members into its' organization. They provide countless service hours to our community

Thanks to the scouts for all their hard work and keep up the great work. Thanks to all the leaders without your help their would not be a Blue and Gold Banquet! Thanks to all the scouts who participated in the cake bake and made our desserts for last night event. I have posted pictures on the website that we took last night! If you took pictures last night I ask that you share those on our Facebook page so that I can capture those for our pack scrapbook.

Also, last night I showed a slide show of pictures of John Pasour our former Cub Master, I have posted that on our website for anyone who would like to download

FYI - Due to the weather the bridging of the Webelos II's will not take place this Monday, Ron King, Troop 65 Scoutmaster has asked that you still come to the pack meeting on Tuesday and he will be present that night. The Webelos II's will now bridge on March 9, 2015.  All are invited to watch this special program and Webelos I families are encouraged to come. Anyone coming is asked to bring snacks for after the bridging ceremony.

This week we will have our Parents meeting at 6PM this Tuesday at the church fellowship hall. All parents are encouraged to attend. We will be making final plans for our March & April events which include our Pinewood Derby and Camping. so come out to be informed! Click here for the agenda of the meeting.

Bring your empty awards bags back so we can use them again later this year. provide all awards bags to Travis. A scout is thrifty.
