Busy Week in Scouting! Our Bears started the week meeting at the Boy Scout Cabin with Officers Matt Dodson and TJ Walker. The Forensic adventure loop was started that night and completed with a K-9 demonstration, which was awesome (Go Kash, black lab). Scouts learned about evidence collection, finger printing, shoe impressions, and much more!

Thursday night was the Alamance District Putt-Putt event and I must admit Pack 65 lead the way with 36 members of our pack present out of a total of 62. Scouts enjoyed mini golf and playing in the arcade. Two-thirds of the attendance was by our Pack and Troop 65.

Today we had our annual Rain Gutter Regatta event, but before racing started our scouts and many family members got some great exercise by hiking just over 2 miles. Thanks to all the parents who helped run this event. It takes a small army to pull these events off and we always need help. Congratulations to Jarrett Waldron who took 1st place, Ian Garris for 2nd place, and Jacob Eubanks in 3rd place.

I have posted the pictures from this weeks events on our Cub Scout 65 Facebook page and on the pack's website. I encourage all scout families to check out the pictures. If you have not requested being a friend on Facebook, please do so. Also, if you have pictures from any events, I encourage you to share them on Facebook.

We have the next couple of weeks off from scouting, so enjoy your summer break. Once we start into August we have a lot of events planned!

The finance committee will follow up with you on money turned in today to make sure we have all the numbers correct for paying for the Burlington Royals baseball game.

Great Dad & Lad Weekend.
While it was hot this weekend at Dad & Lad, all of our scouts and their dads had a great weekend. Pack 65 had the most scouts of any pack in attendance with 10 scouts attending this event. Scouts got to enjoy fishing, archery, BB guns, tie-dye shirts and much more!

We have more Rain Gutter Regatta kits at the Crabtree household, if you need a kit, contact us to make arrangements on picking these up. Travis had them at the Dad & Lad, but nobody requested them there.

Our pack has a busy week ahead! Bears will meet Tuesday night at the Scout Cabin at 6pm to work on the Forensic Adventure Loop. **Other leaders if you want to use the scout cabin this summer to have a den meeting let me know and I will check with Ron to see if it is available. The Troop meets almost every Monday night, so keep that in mind when making plans.

Thursday night July 14th is Putt-Putt in Burlington at 6:30, cost is $8 per person and it is open to the whole family. The cost includes 2 rounds of Putt-Putt and 20 tokens. While this is an Alamance District event I hope to see a lot of Pack 65 at the event, since we planned the event as one of our original Summertime Pack Award events! The Alamance District is piggybacking off of our event. You can wear either Class A or Class B for this event.

Saturday July 16 we will meet at Lake Michael in Mebane for a hike then our Rain Gutter Regatta Race. Bring your own picnic lunch during a relaxed fun afternoon. We have the first shelter reserved from 10AM-2PM. The scouts will hike first while the track is being setup. After the hike we will host the race and after the race have lunch. Remember the lake does offer fishing and paddle boats each for an additional small cost. We hope that you will bring the whole family for a day of fun!

Remember if you want to attend the Burlington Royals Baseball game August 13, you will need to sign up and pay the pack at the Rain Gutter Regatta. If you owe the pack any money for past events, you will need to settle that debt first before signing up for this event.  Cost for scout is $10 which includes baseball game, dinner and camping.  If you just want the game; no meal cost is $5 for scouts and for other family members the cost is $5 which does not include meal.

Surrounding the Main Flagpole at Camp Cherokee is a brand new walkway. Inside the walkway are bricks that can be purchased for family members who have made the rank of Eagle Scout. They look really nice and the cost is $100 per brick. So if you know of a father, brother, uncle or just a close friend, etc... this could be a really nice gift to provide maybe as a Christmas present or for a birthday gift. The first picture in this e-mail is where the bricks will be located, our pack is standing on them as a hopeful group of future Eagle scouts. Remember only 4% make it.

Other events the pack has planned.

August 6 at 9AM we will hike the Great Bend at Glenco
August 10 6:30PM Bowling at Country Club Lanes cost is $8.50 includes 2 games of bowling, show rental and 1 round of mini golf
August 25 Open House at BEJ & AWE schools and we will need help with recruitment tables
August 27 Adopt a School Program at AWE & BEJ school grounds clean up
September 6 at 7pm will be our first Pack meeting back along with a Parents meeting starting at 6pm
September 9-11 camping & Hiking Hanging Rock State Park
September 17 Elon Football Game campout
September 20 Ice Cream Social/Popcorn Kickoff
October 21-23 Cub-O-Ree Camp out at Camp Woodfield

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Our scouts had another busy week. We started out with our Webelos, who left out last Sunday for camp. We had 6 scouts and at least one parent go and spend 4 nights and 5 days at Camp Woodfield. Check out all the pictures on our Facebook Page it shows not only the scouts having fun, but it looked liked all of our parents enjoyed their time as well.

Also today we had three of our scouts attend the Hometown Heros event to help SAFE. They helped collect a lot of food for our local Food Bank! Remember we have lots of families in our area that need help, so if you can help come up with any ideas that the scouts can help SAFE collect food, please let me know!

This coming weekend is the Dad & Lad campout. I hope we have a lot who signed up to attend. I know that Mike Solomon and Travis Crabtree have signed up, so be looking for them at camp. You should not need to bring a tent, but if you have one I would take it, but if you are new to scouts they have tents at Camp Cherokee which is in Yanceyville, NC about 30 miles north from here. You probably only need to take a sheet, bed roll and pillow for the tents.

Our plan is to acquire some additional Rain Gutter Regatta kits, so that Travis will have them at Dad & Lad for purchase for $4, remember your scout can only race one boat. If you are not going to be camping this weekend, you can make arrangements either with me to get a kit over the next weekend or you can always go to the Scout Store in Greensboro or Raleigh depending on your travels and get a kit.

Reminder - To attend the Burlington Royals game you will need to sign up & pay Pack 65 either with scout bucks or personal money by July 16 to be included. You will cover all of your family members that you plan to attend and no refunds will occur. July 14 is the Alamance District Putt-Putt event at 6:30 pm. This event does not require that you sign up, so just show up that night and pay at the counter for how many family members want to play Putt-Putt. Cost is $8 per person, covers 2 rounds of golf and 20 tokens. July 16 is our Rain Gutter Regatta race along with pack hike and bring your own picnic lunch. This is at Lake Michael from 10AM-2PM. We will start with the hike, then the boat race and finally a late lunch. Remember they offer fishing and paddle boating for an additional price.
Also July 12th, the Bear Den is meeting at the Boy Scout Cabin to work on one of their elective adventure loops they need for rank. I would like to encourage other dens to meet at least once, if not twice over the summer with their dens, if you would like to use the Boy Scout Cabin, let me know and I will see if it is available.

Reminder on the Mountain View Ruritan Chicken Sandwich fundraiser coming real soon to assist with Southern High School scholarships.

Lisa

Great Hike today at Cedarock Park.

Thanks to all the scouts and their families who came out this morning for an early hike. We had 6 of our new scouts earn the Trail Trekker patch today. All got credited for a 2 mile hike and it was a nice opportunity to meet our new families and get some exercise while it was comfortable outside.

I would like to welcome our newest scout Aiden Campbell to the pack! I hope that you and your family will enjoy our pack.

I want to wish our Webelos good luck with camping. They leave tomorrow to Webelos Camp for 4 nights of camping at Camp Woodfield and we all hope that you will have great weather.

If you still need a Rain Gutter Regatta kit for our boat race in July, please let me know. The kits are $4 and we still have a few in stock.

Some of the new parents wanted to know about uniforms, t-shirts, and handbooks. You can get books and uniforms locally at Graham Sporting Goods or you can also get them at the scout store in Greensboro. For the pack t-shirts, we do have some in stock for $10. If we don't have your scout's size, we will place a new order in the fall. During the summer we do not require the Class A uniform (which is the blue or brown button up shirt) at events they can wear Class B (t-shirts). I will tell you at the Burlington Royals Baseball game, they will allow the scouts to walk on the field before the start of the game and some scouts will help with the Color Guard (flags) part of the program and we would prefer they wear Class A. They can then change into Class B after the game.

Also new parents, if you plan to camp at either the Dad & Lad, Burlington Royals Baseball game, Hanging Rock State Park, or Elon Football game and you do not have a tent or sleeping bag, let me know and we can make arrangements.

New scouts, if you recruit a friend to join the pack, you can earn the Recruitment Stripe that can be permanently sewn on the uniform. It is always more fun to have a friend in scouts with you!
** Upcoming Events ------------------------------------------------------------
Dad & Lad is July 9 & 10 at Camp Cherokee (Caswell County) to attend this event you will need to sign up online click here to sign up (http://bsaonsc.doubleknot.com/event/1882817)

July 14 is Putt-Putt Night for $8 per person, pay at the counter and you get 2 rounds of putt-putt and 20 tokens, bring the whole family for a night of fun. This is an Alamance District event, so we can hangout with other packs from across the county.

July 16 is our Pack event for July at Lake Michael from 10am-2PM. We will meet at shelter 1 close to the playground and we will hike first, then have the boat race. We invite all families to bring their own picnic lunch, which we can have after the events. Remember Lake Michael allows fishing for a small fee and they also have paddle boats.

July 16 is also the Mountain View Ruritan Club's chicken sandwich fund raiser. The dinner runs about $10 per person and the proceeds help finance scholarships for high school students through Southern High School.

** Happy Father's Day! ------------------------------------------------------------
I hope all of our dad's have enjoyed this day with their families and thank you for helping our scouts continue to grow.

Thanks to all the leaders and parents that attended yesterday's 2nd annual planning meeting. Many topics were covered during the meeting and the new handbook was shared with all. The new handbook each scout family will need to fill out and sign the paperwork at the end of the book. This should be turned in as soon as possible, so if you are hiking with us this weekend, please bring all three signed forms and give them to Aprille Aquilar or the Crabtree's.

The new Finance Committee was introduced, which includes Stevie Couturier President, Doug Horner Vice President, Josh Brown Treasurer and Aprille Aguilar as Secretary. This is a two year appointment and they will handle everything money related, please thank them for taking on these roles. They worked very hard creating new polices that will help the scouts and the pack.

We would like to welcome the new scouts that recently joined the pack: Eli Aguilar, Noah Laird, Colin Lenfert, Jordan Love, Carson Stewart & Kaleb Tharpe! We hope that you will enjoy Pack 65! If they can get some friends to join, a recruiter stripe can be earned.

This summer, scouts have the opportunity to earn the Summertime Pack Award, scouts can earn this award by attending one event each month of the summer. For our new scouts, we invite you to attend the hike this coming Saturday at Cedarock Park at 9AM. We will meet at the paved parking lot at the park offices near the flag pole and shelter #4. Also remember this summer every time your scout attends an event their name goes into a drawing for a camp hammock.

Today everyone should have gotten an invitation from Scoutbook to sign up for this hiking event. Moving forward this is how we will handle signing up for events instead of the papers we have each week. Over the course of the next week you will receive invitations from Scoutbook for all of our summer planned events. If you are not getting these emails please let me know in some fashion so we can get you included.

Special service opportunity: SAFE is blessed to take part in Hometown Heroes. This event on July 3rd at 3 PM at Williams High School will honor the veterans in Alamance County. The coordinators for the event are encouraging those who attend to bring items for SAFE. We will need then a group of people to help box and transport the food collected at this event. They need 5 scouts to help at this event. You will meet at SAFE at 1PM and then head as a team to Williams High school. If you want to volunteer please let me know.

The Ruritan Building at Friendship Patterson Mill Rd & Mt Hermon Rock Creek Road which is really close to Cedarock Park is hosting a Chicken sandwich dinner on July 16th, please save the date and try to come out and support the community. They give out scholarships each year to Southern High Students, so this could directly impact your children in the near future.

** Upcoming events that you will get invitations from this week

July 9 & 10 Dad & Lad Camping which you must sign up for online through council site, last day to register is July 1, 2016
July 16 is our Rain Gutter Regatta boat race, if you need a kit email me as they are $4 per kit and a scout can only race 1 boat at Lake Michael from 10-2PM and we will also host a hike.

What a Great Pinewood Derby!
ons of fun was had by scouts and parents yesterday at the pinewood derby! I would like to thank all the people that helped make yesterday's event so successful, which I think was everyone in attendance. A special thanks to Ron King who took time out of his schedule to help us with this event, Ron made many upgrades to the system that allowed us to watch the cars in slow motion. Congratulations to our winners! Ty Spangler, Jarret Waldron, Addison Workman & Nate Aguilar and to our Outlaw winners Brooklyn Spangler, Emily Workman and Andy Klischer.

This week the Wolves will not meet at the church, they will meet at the Spring Friends Meeting Church at 3323 E Old Greensboro Hwy at the intersection of Stockard Road. This is critical for most Wolves to complete their Duty to God Adventure Loop.
For all families attending Patriot's Point there is a required meeting March 22 at 6:30 at the church to cover items needed.

Webelos I and Bears going to Webelos camp this summer, you have to pay the deposit of $90 by April 1, the point person for this event is April Aguilar.

Great day for Hike! We had 5 scouts and families show up yesterday for a 3.5 mile hike at Johnston Mill Park. If you have never hiked this park, it is really a great place for a hike. It was dry, and we crossed the New Hope creek several times and they have different styles of benches that are dedicated in memory of people and our scouts took time to read and sit at each one.

This Tuesday we will have our parents' meeting starting at 6PM. We will be discussing the Pinewood Derby, camp cards, camping options, next pack meeting and rank advancement.

The pinewood derby is this weekend. Friday night will be practice from 6-8pm and we will be setting up the track at 6PM, so if you are just coming to practice the cars, plan to arrive at 6:30 if you are coming to help, please arrive by 6PM. Remember only scouts that participated in Scouting for Food are allowed to practice their cars. The derby will be Saturday from 8-Noon. It will take around 1 hour to get everyone checked in so please be patient with our check-in process. Remember we need everyone to provide snacks, and also remember food and drinks are not allowed on the gym floor but must stay in the snack area.

We have just added a new camping trip opportunity May 6-8 at Cedarock Park. The cost is $15 per person if you are camping both nights and $10 if you are just camping Saturday and $5 extra per person if you want to fish. With the new Cub Scout program, camping is a requirement to earn rank badge, so we wanted to give each scout this opportunity. This will be the last time that camping will be offered before the scouting year ends on June 1. Our monthly hike will be conducted while at Cedarock Park during this camping event. Great Camping Trip
We had a great camping weekend, great weather, food and fellowship. I would like to thank Doug and Christy Horner for getting all the food and cooking this weekend. We might have all went away gaining 10 pounds each! :) Thanks to Brandon and all the leaders and Den Chiefs for working with the scouts on performing skits and songs. Scouts and parents learned how to tie knots, went on a hike, and enjoyed the beautiful weather and lake water. The Wolf den worked really hard and almost finished 3/4 of an Adventure Loop. Welcome new scouts! Jaquarius Daye, Jeremiah Workman, James Johnson, William Coletrane, Sean Coble & Erik Kaulinis! Remember this week, we will meet at Eli Whitney Community Building on this Tuesday at 7PM. This will be our ice cream social to welcome our new families and popcorn kickoff. We want all families to bring ice cream and drinks to share. If you have not signed up
Remember Webelos II are hosting this event and need to arrive early to setup the room and help in the kitchen along with the end of the evening final clean up. Class A Uniforms are highly encouraged for all scouts who have them, if not please Class B, except for newly signed up scouts. Popcorn sales start this coming weekend and we need lots of help We need all families to help fill several shifts. New scouts, the challenge is on to earn the Bobcat Rank by the end of October. If you do, you earn a chance to win Putt-Putt at Celebration Station for you and a friend. Click here for the rank advancements requirements. (https://gallery.mailchimp.com/594ec439bce1ae391ee48c559/files/BobcatChallenge2015.pdf) Many of our scouting families still need to turn in required forms and paperwork. Aprille Aguilar has all the forms that have been turned in, so please, click here to check your status (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pLTfqpA81APr0etQT33bQHdw7PhNOgl7H7h24SThh_8/edit?usp=sharing) of the completed forms. Cook-O-Ree (family camping event) is closing in. It is highly important for the majority of our scouts to attend this event with regard to their rank badge. Wolf, Bear, and Webelos require camping with the Pack or their Den to be eligible for their rank badge. If they don't camp with us during October 23-25 (depending on Den), they may only have one additional chance in the Spring to make rank advancement, regardless of how many Adventure loops they complete. The 2015 program has camping as an essential part of making the next level of rank for our scouts.
Happy Birthday to Alexander Klischer 9/25 & Ethan Toler 9/25

Heroes Week
This Tuesday we will have a Police Officer and his K-9, a member of the fire department and an ambulance to give talks, should be tons of fun for the Tigers Wolves and Bears! Special thanks to the family members who attended the BALOO training this weekend at Camp Woodfield. This truley helps our pack with succession planning and allowing more opportunities for our pack to camp in case someone has to back out for an emergency. Thank you!!! This weekend we have our Jordan Lake event. We are able to arrive after 4PM on Friday. We are at the Parker's Creek group campsite #256 click here for a map (https://gallery.mailchimp.com/594ec439bce1ae391ee48c559/files/jordan_lake_parkers_creek.pdf) of the location. Remember when we camp, the pack does not provide drinks or special food. You will need to provide drinks for your family along with any special food your family members need or require. We will have coffee and orange juice, but you should come prepared with your own drinks. Also, we do have a hike planned, so you must bring a backpack with the Cub Scout six essentials along with his water bottle. Also there will be time to fish, so plan on bringing a rod and bait to fish for a while. For families who still want to camp but have not signed up for Jordan Lake, we have another great option for camping. Camping at the Elon Football game on Saturday September 19, 2015 at 6PM. Cost is $20 per person which includes the game ticket, camping, dinner, breakfast, and a gift. Or pay just $5 per person to attend the game! This week we will host new parent orientation at 6PM this week for parents to ask questions. We would like to have den leaders there to answer questions, if you can make it. September 22, we will have our Ice Cream Social/Popcorn kickoff! This will be held at the Eli Whitney Community building at 7PM. We need each family to sign up for drinks, ice cream, or toppings! It should be a great fun evening!
We have many popcorn locations booked and we still are working on booking a few more. If you know of a location, we would love to hear from you!
I would like to thank the leaders today that attended the popcorn meeting. We made some great decisions and I hope that we will have a successful popcorn season.
Cook-O-Ree is October 23-25 at Camp Woodfield. This is a huge family event of camping and fun combined with rank advancement. Sign up for the 26th anniversary of this awesome family encampment. Shooting Sports and food will make for a fun weekend for all.
Happy Birthday to Jacob Tharpe 9/15 & William Bivins 9/19
