Tuesday our scouts went to Triangle Sportsplex for Ice Skating. For most of our scouts it was the first time on the ice. While they all faced a learning curve they all stuck to the cub scout motto "Do Your Best" and they were all skating by the end of the night. While no belt loops were involved, it was still a great experience that all the scouts enjoyed and it felt good inside. We posted pictures on Facebook and will soon add them to the Website.
We followed that adventure with hiking at Cedarock Park Saturday morning. Our scouts hiked two miles and worked on the importance of the Cub Scout six essentials, what to do if they got lost, and the buddy system. We need your help. We are evaluating our communication of information. Please take time to complete the following survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/D757PWW) to help us be more effective in how we get information to our scouting parents. Our next pack event will be August 4 at Putt-Putt in Burlington at 6pm. The cost is $9 per golfing participant which includes one round of putt-putt, 20 tokens, 2 slices of pizza and a drink. Should be tons of fun, DEADLINE TO SIGN UP is July 30th, so we can get a headcount to Putt-Putt.
The Alamance District has teamed up with the Burlington Royals on August 8 for a scout Night. The cost is $10 per person, which includes the baseball game, camping, dinner, and a light breakfast. To sign up for this event, call the Burlington Royals office. Mike Solomon will be attending this event, so if you have questions talk to Mike.
We have one more event planned for the summer. It is a hike at Occonneechee State Park in Hillsborough at 2PM on August 22. This is a great hike for scouts learning about Geology and seeing fools gold. Matt Dodson will be leading this event, so please sign up ! Always bring your Cub Scout six essentials on these outings because your den leaders can provide credit towards your rank advancement in the new 2015 program.
BEJ parents, we have secured an information table for Open House on August 20 from 4-6PM. If we could get parents to sign up for shifts so that all families have time to meet with teachers, but also share the scout program to any new parents interested. Let me know ASAP what time slot you wish to secure in manning the table.
AWE families we are still working on securing this night but hopefully will have that information this week.
We encourage all parents to go to the myscouting.org website and create a free account to take the on-line training courses available. The first class you should take is the Youth Protection course. It lasts for about 20 minutes.
Yours in Scouting, Lisa
