Wow, can you believe it just one more week till most of our scouts start back at school. I really hope that all of you have enjoyed your summer. I know I have taken the last two weeks to spend time with the boys and enjoy one last trip to the beach and get ready for school. With one week left this week, we have a busy week. We need parents to help us get the word out about scouting. We have made arrangements with both AWE and BEJ to allow us to have a table with information about the scouting program. Please take time to sign up for a 30 minute window at the school that your scout attends, if we can have parents in Class B and if the scout could be in Class A, that would be great. We would like to have any of our home school scouts join us at either location. Both schools are hosting open houses from August 20, 2015 from 4-6 pm. Any scout who helps with Open House and/or recruitment night can earn a rocket. All new scouts that join this year will get a rocket on October 10 at 3 PM at the Alamance Battleground to launch. The pack is purchasing rockets for scouts that help with recruitment.
Last year the pack made a commitment with Adopt-a-School program through BSA at both AWE & BEJ, which means we have to perform 4 service projects during the scouting year. We have made arrangements at both schools for Saturday August 22, 2015 from 9-11 AM to perform a school clean up. At AWE, we will be trimming bushes and weeding areas around the school along with a trash and limb pickup. At BEJ, we will perform a trash cleanup of the grounds. This is very important for the scouts to understand that a big part of the program is giving back to the community.
Also on Saturday August 22 at 2 PM, we will have our hike for August at Occonneechee Park in Hillsborough. We will meet the naturalist, who will lead the pack in a hike and we will learn about the very unique geology and other rocks in the park that have helped with our US space program and the construction of many of the buildings on the Duke University Campus.
We would still like to encourage any parent to sign up for BALOO training. We are required to have at least 2 members of the pack trained for any camping trips. The pack has agreed to pay for any parent that takes the class. You will need to sign up and pay and the pack will roll the money into scout bucks once completing the course. This is a great course for any parent still new to camping. Click here to sign up! (http://bsaonsc.doubleknot.com/event/baloo/1768047)
